
Prof. Ronnie Friedman

Prof. Ronnie Friedman is a Professor of Immunology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and holds the Ron Barbaro Chair in Veterinary Medicine. He is former Vice-President for External Relations and University Advancement and former Dean of the University’s Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment. Prof. Friedman earned his B.Sc. in Agriculture, his M.Sc. in Immunology from the Hebrew University, and his Ph.D. in Immunology from the Weizmann Institute of Science. He undertook postdoctoral research in Immunology at Harvard Medical School and has since spent time there as a research fellow and a visiting professor. Prof. Friedman’s research focuses on the development and function of intestinal immunity in mammals and birds. His work, based on advanced techniques in biology and immunology, has been instrumental in deciphering mechanisms of immune tolerance as well as innate immunity in the gut. The recipient of numerous research grants, Prof. Friedman has published some 100 papers, reviews and chapters in international journals and proceedings, and has presented numerous invited lectures worldwide.
